A former missionary, Phil possesses a rich background in education, spirituality and pastoral counseling. As a result, Phil has enabled scores of individuals to access the richness of their faith understanding and their spiritual experience to discover answers to relationship issues, bereavement, and other concerns that plague one's peace of mind.
Following his missionary work, Phil served 5 years as an educator for the North East ISD and Archdiocese of San Antonio. This experience in education offers him the background to help hundreds high school and college students excel in school.
Few therapists are specialists in Family Counseling, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma Disorders, and Co-occurring Substance Use Disorders. Phil's extensive training enables him to match the right treatment with your needs so you can achieve the best results in the shortest amount of time.

Aljon Family Counseling was founded in October 2012. A husband and wife team, Phil and Liz are committed to improving the well-being of families, couples, and individuals affected by life's challenges.

The Hoatzin is a primitive tropical bird which is the last surviving member of a bird line that dates back 64 million years. The Hoatzin possesses a remarkable coping skill which enables it to thrive in large colonies. It represent families who overcome obstacles despite the odds.
The medicine wheel is a rich and ancient symbol of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual balance. Many Native Americans across the US and Canada continue to utilize this dynamic representations of the Four Directions.

Liz brings to this wonderful commitment 15 years of teaching experience at the elementary school level. Her desire to help children, parents and families with special circumstances gives her the ability to understand the needs and challenges parents and children face daily. Liz is a certified Bachelor of Science Special Education Teacher and a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist (CART).
You can begin to experience an understanding of those complexities in life which seem to become obstacles and get in the way of enjoying life.
Liz is the case manager and office manager for Aljon Family Counseling. She also teaches Relapse Prevention and Anger Management curriculums.
